Outdoor shot of the museum from Central Avenue

The Children's Museum is located at 2525 Central Avenue at the corner of Central and Hollywood. It is housed in the old National Guard Armory (built in the 1940s) on the Mid-South Fairgrounds. The expansion added a new facade to the exterior including these giant children's blocks that spell out "CMOM."

Art Smart Gallery

Visual and performing arts are explored in Art Smart. Children become “stars” on stage as they dress in costumes and use props. Visitors paint, sculpt and draw in the art studio, draw their own faces in the portrait studio, weave colorful patterns on a giant loom, play a color wheel game, and create computer animations.

City Friends Exhibit

Children discover the special people in their community who respond to emergencies and provide safety in City Friends. Children enjoy dressing as a police officer and sitting on the real police motorcycle or in the real sheriff’s car. The centerpiece of this exhibit is the shiny red fire engine that children love to sit in and role-play with.

Kid's Market Exhibit

The Kid’s Market is a miniature grocery store where children role-play by shopping for groceries. It is the museum’s most popular exhibit. The exhibit also tries to teach children to make smart, healthy food choices. The real scanners allow children to use bar codes to ring up their purchases. This component of the exhibit allows children to use math skills when adding up their purchase totals or when figuring change.
